Top 8 aftercare tips to heal better after getting permanent makeup

aftercare tips to heal better after getting permanent makeup

Right after someone gets a permanent makeup procedure done on them, they need to plan the upcoming one or two weeks around their freshly tattooed perfect eyebrows or rose-tinted lips. The healing period is extremely important and significant, especially after spending so much money on a high-end service like this. To get the best out of your investment, you need to take care of a few things religiously during the healing period.

What can you expect to see during the aftercare and healing period?

Individual healing periods will vary based on what technique was used to do their permanent makeup.  Since some PMU processes such as microblading are slightly more invasive as compared to ombre brows or microshading, the person who went for the first option will need to be more careful during the healing period. Also, the length of the healing period will be more for the former.

The treatment will initially cause mild reactions such as swelling, redness, scabbing, etc, which are quite normal. But if it is an allergy, it would need special attention. Besides that, almost everything else is meant to go away on its own in a few days.

Top aftercare tips to follow after getting permanent makeup

Unless a discomfort persists beyond the expected time scales you need not worry at all. Although every PMU procedure needs to be followed up with a specific aftercare process, the general guidelines are as follows:

1. Avoid the sun for a few days, even if you love it

You might love sunbathing in general but during the healing process, you have to protect the affected area of the skin in every way possible. Since the skin will be open and traumatized to some extent, direct sunlight can only intensify these side effects.

2. Keep the affected area as dry as possible.

Keep cotton pads and tissues in handy so that you don’t wait long enough in case the treated area gets wet. Follow the instructions given by the PMU expert and only use mild cleansers for cleaning during the healing process. Make sure that you blot all the moisture whenever the area gets wet.

3. Avoid all cosmetics for a few days

It is very important to avoid using makeup and other skincare products during the healing process. As the skin is open, applying these can cause reactions that are unpredictable. It can even cause infection by reacting with the pigment molecules.

4.Use an ice pack to comfort the affected area

Using a cold ice pack is very effective in reducing the discomfort caused due to swelling in the affected area.

5. Refrain from picking, peeling, or removing the scabs

Scabbing is a very natural part of the healing process. And it will also be followed by an itching sensation. The tendency to pick or scratch the skin will be real at times. But it is important to let the scabs fall on their own to avoid scarring.

6. Avoid Showering with hot water

If you are getting permanent makeup during the winter season, it might be hard to resist hot baths and saunas. Even if you take baths with hot water, it is important to get done quickly. Otherwise, the steam might start to melt the pigment. Moreover, it is important to keep the area dry. Exposure to steam will increase the time needed to heal.

7. Avoid going to the gym

If you dislike working out, you will have a sigh of relief because anything that causes heavy sweating needs to be avoided during the healing process. That’s because the salinity of the sweat will react with the pigment and lighten it. It is therefore not advisable to start your gym visits before completing the healing.

8. Protect your face from dirt sticking to your hair

As the affected portion of the skin has greater pores and cuts, it is important to protect it from dirt and grime that could stick to the hair. Also, rubbing the skin with hair in that area may cause irritation. Always keep your hair tied or clip it away from the face. For the same matter, avoid sleeping on dirty pillows. Pillows take in all the dirt from the skin and hair and if the affected area gets exposed to such surfaces while sleeping, it can increase the chances of infection.
