Anyone uninitiated to the PMU world will surely have a few questions on their mind! A few common ones are, “What If I don’t like my PMU results?” “Will I have no other option than waiting for 2-3 years before the pigment fades on its own?”, etc.
If you have the same concerns, then there is some good news. You will not be forced to carry on with a pair of eyebrows you hate. Bad PMU results can be camouflaged and corrected, although it doesn’t mean that the process will be easy.
3 main reasons why someone dislikes their PMU results
There are concrete solutions for bad PMU results. But before actually getting into that part of the topic, I have a few more things to say. Let us try to understand the root cause behind why you don’t like your PMU results.
1. Judging too early
The first point to consider, is, “How long ago did you get the PMU procedure done on you?”. The pigments would appear quite dark compared to the intended color when your results are still fresh. So do not be too quick to judge. The actual color will show up post-healing. This is the shade that will remain unchanged for the next few months at least. If the color of the eyebrows looks way darker than your expectations after healing, then you might have to remove the pigments or lighten them with the help of a professional.
In case your eyebrow color looks lighter than intended after healing, you can simply get them retouched by your PMU artist. It does not involve extra cost as well because the cost of a follow-up retouching session post-healing is meant to be covered under the same initial fee. This is when small mistakes and irregularities in appearance are corrected.
2. Poor skills of the chosen PMU artist
Secondly, it is very important that you choose your PMU artist properly. In simple words, do not go to someone simply because they exist!
Usually, it is normal for your eyebrows or lips to lose pigment in some areas during the healing process. The follow-up appointment is meant to retouch those areas and enhance the lips or brows to perfection.
But if your PMU artist is not well-skilled or experienced enough, you’ll see slightly different kinds of irregularities and mistakes and those cannot be rectified easily during that appointment. But in case of many uneven strokes, badly mapped eyebrows, unstable hands, shaky lines, etc the flaws will be very clearly visible. You will have to find a reliable hand and get these fixed as soon as possible. But no matter how bad it is, the initial healing has to be over before working on the body part with permanent makeup.
3. Initial consultation was not clear enough
It is also important to notice that an in-depth consultation is key to managing one’s expectations as a client and knowing all about the probable outcomes. This has to happen even before the actual PMU process has started on you. If the initial consultation had a mixed message or you did not get all your doubts cleared, you might face a little disappointment later on.
This consultation has to clarify why a certain shade of color, product, or technique is being chosen specifically for you. This way you will anticipate certain outcomes and it won’t be an ugly surprise later on. A good PMU artist will not simply do as you say. You will learn the logic and facts behind the choices, which will help you set proper expectations. It will prevent you from being unnecessarily unhappy.
Removing Permanent Makeup
Let us assume that you want to remove your permanent makeup and don’t want to listen to anything else. You have three very effective methods as options. They are briefly described below:
1. Saline removal
In this method, the skin is cut open slightly using equipment, and specially formulated saline water is injected into it. The area starts scabbing eventually and the scab lifts off the pigments with it. In a few sessions, it will completely remove all the pigments. If done right, this method will not cause any pain and is also very effective in removing cosmetic tattoos.
2. Glycolic acid removal
This method is quite similar to the saline removal method. The only difference is the solution used. A mixture of glycolic acid and lactic acid is released into the skin with the help of equipment and soon there will be scabbing due to that. The color particles will bind themselves to the solution and get lifted off with the scabs.
3. Laser Removal
If the PMU results are at least 6 months old, the laser method can be applied to remove pigments. The only problem with the laser removal method is that it works on cool and dark pigments but not on pigments with white bases. This means that lip pigments cannot be removed using the laser method. The heat and the laser beam break down the pigment particles and our body extracts it with its natural mechanism. In a few sessions, all the pigments can be removed using the method. This method is considered very safe when done right. However, there is a chance for hyperpigmentation on colored and dark skin.
Hopefully, you found this blog useful and you now know about the three options you have in case you don’t like your PMU results. However, we hope you don’t get into this situation at all. The best way to avoid this is by increasing your awareness and only going to a professional with a proven track record.
